Fifty Years With My Hands in the Dirt

I'm Karen Mallinger, the Herb Gal. I've been growing, blending and teaching about herbs for more than fifty years, and I still believe there should be an herbalist in every household.

Woman with glasses holding a mug in a lush garden.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You have a purpose.

I believe God has provided everything we need for optimal health in the way of natural plants and herbs, and my calling is to help you use them safely and well. I understand the weight and frustration of feeling like there is more out there for you but not knowing where to turn first. My mission is simple: give you the wellness tools and resources you need to be happy, healthy and fulfill your purpose.

Woman with herbs: Your Body Was Designed to Heal

Stewardship, Not Quick Fixes

Karen's work rests on a simple conviction: the body was made well, and most of the time it is trying to tell you something. The job is to listen, remove what is in the way, and give it what it needs, rest included.

That means education before prescription, and guidance rather than pressure. You are meant to understand what you are taking and why, so that over time you need her less, not more.

My Story

I was born in England and grew up in the Amish country of Northern Ohio, with a natural love of the earth and plants. Our gardens were planted by the Farmers' Almanac. Remedies for the animals were all natural, and ranged from Epsom salts and water for colicky horses to a homemade "miracle salve" that worked for everything.

After retiring from the U.S. Navy I settled in Colorado and began growing organic vegetables and herbs in cold frames and raised boxes. That's where the study got serious. I earned my Master Herbalist (MH) and Certified Nutritional Counselor (CNC) certifications from Trinity College, and I'm a Certified Natural Health Care Practitioner (CNHP).

All Goode Gifts

For more than forty years I owned All Goode Gifts, LLC, an international herb business serving people who wanted a healthy lifestyle free of unnecessary chemicals. Those years taught me more about what people actually need than any textbook could. Mostly that they need someone to slow down and listen first.

My husband Michael and I later spent years in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, along with three Pembroke Welsh Corgis who guarded the garden and played with the fairies. It was a beautiful chapter, and a lot of what I know about cold-climate growing came out of it.

Back Home in Colorado

Today I'm based in Colorado Springs, where I do personal consultations, coaching sessions and classes, and prepare custom formulas for my clients. I specialize in custom herbal formulations and wellness teas for specific concerns, with particular emphasis on women's health, geriatric health and natural pet care.

Teaching, Writing & Radio

Teaching has always been the part I love most. I've spoken for Women's Clubs, Senior Citizen Centers, herb guilds, co-ops and churches, and I'm available for speaking engagements and workshops.

How I Work Today

I don't believe in one-size-fits-all wellness. I look at you as a whole person: your body, your lifestyle, your stress, your habits and your goals. Then I make recommendations that fit your real life. Some people work with me once. Some check in every season. Both are fine.

If you're taking prescription medication, bring the list. I'd rather know exactly what you're on so I can think it through carefully, and I'll always encourage you to keep your prescribing provider in the loop.
