HERBAL ENERGETICS - Are you Dry or Damp?

rkymtnmom

WHICH ONE ARE YOU, AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

DRY DESERT

OK! Last week as we started our journey into Herbal Energetics, we talked about Hot and Cold Constitutions. How did you do? Did you discover that you’re a hot constitution or a cold constitution? This may seem silly to some of you, but I promise as we get further into this, you’ll understand why it is so important for you to know this about yourself.

This week we are going to go through the same exercise, only focusing on Dry or Damp Constitutions. When we are finished, you will be able to identify as Hot/Dry, Hot/ Damp or Cold/Dry, Cold/Damp. Remember, you want to select the statement that feels true to you most of the time, then add up the A’s and B’s to see where you fall out.

Everybody ready? Here we go!

1.   A. I tend to sweat more easily than others. B. My skin tends to be rough and dry.

2.   A. My skin and hair are often oily. B. My hair tends to be dry.

3.   A. My arms and legs can feel heavy. B. My fingernails are dry and/or brittle.

4.   A. I often have a stuffy or runny nose. B. I often have itchy skin or scalp.

5.   A. I tend to have a thick coating on my tongue. B. I often have a dry throat, nose, eyes and /or mouth.

6.   A. I prefer dry climates and don’t like humidity. B. My tongue does not usually have a coating on it.

OK. Pencils down! How’d you do? If you had more A’s that were true for you, you have a Damp constitution. If you had more B’s, you have a Dry constitution. And if you were pretty equal, you have a balanced constitution. So what does this mean? I want you to combine these results with your results from last week and see what your particular constitution is. Hot/Dry? Cold/Damp? Hot/Damp? Cold/Dry?

WOMAN THINKING

Instead of fixating on those definitions, I want you to think about how those things manifest in you. Also, you need to realize that many external influences may be affecting how you feel day to day. An illness, medications, the climate or any number of other variables can influence how you are feeling. I want you to think about these things in the coming week, because once we start adding other factors in, you are going to see why some natural recommendations never worked for you, when they may have worked wonderfully for others.

I am a Hot/Dry constitution, but even I love a nice hot cup of tea when the temps drop below zero around here! And the last thing my body wants is a cold salad as opposed to a nice bowl of hot soup. So remember to be flexible with it and work on your body awareness this week. Take notice how different things affect you. Do you just thrive in the 85+ degree days we have been having, or do you seek a nice shady spot to rest in? When it rains for several days in a row, do you find yourself loving it, or saying “Enough already!”

Next week, we are going to start looking at different herbs and their particular and unique constitutions or energetics. This is where it starts to get really fun! So have a wonderful week and be thinking about your own beautiful body and what it’s unique characteristics are.
